Home Grown Touring Car Racing

During the 1950s touring car racing steadily gained ground, a cheaper and simpler path to racing than building a single seater racing car, or buying a factory car. George Wakelin, a former motorcycle racer who had raced a single-seater, the WS Spl, for a number of years, converted to this blue Holden and was a dominant figure in WA Touring Car Racing until he retired. He and fellow Holden driver Dave Sullivan Snr engaged in a number of epic battles. (Peter Longley)
